Urinalysis (Urine Test) Abnormal Findings and their diseases:
- Gestational Diabetes = Glucose found in urine (indicates not enough glucose uptake by cells because of lack of insulin).
- Proteinuria = Protein found in urine (indicates damage to the glomerus located in the Bowman's capsule in the Kidney's nephron).
- UTI or Kidney Infection = Leukocytes (aka WBCs) found in urine (indicates infection in the UTI or Kidney since WBCs are sent to that location and their job is to clear pathogens).
- Kidney Stones = Crystals in urine.
- Ketoacidosis = Ketones found in urine (indicates Ketones are broken down, which happens when carbohydrate intake is low)
- Diabetes Insipidus = Specific gravity in urine abnormal (indicates impaired ADH function which would lower water content in blood and leaving water in the urine, increasing its specific gravity above normal values.
- Chronic Renal Failure = RBCs and Protein in urine (indicates damage to the glomerus located in the Bowman's capsule in the kidney's nephron)
